About Online Counseling
What is Online Counseling?
Online counseling is traditional talk therapy utilizing online video conferencing tools rather than requiring you to physically come into the therapist’s office. Online sessions are just like face-to-face therapy but with the advantage of allowing you to receive therapy in the comfort of your own home or any other convenient private space. This is a great option for those who live in remote areas, who can’t come into the therapist’s office, who can’t take time away from work or school for their counseling sessions, and those who travel frequently. Anyone who lives in Pennsylvania is eligible to receive services from Kahl Counseling Online.
How Does It Work?
After you make an appointment with Kahl Counseling Online, you’ll receive an email at your appointment time with a link to the Waiting Room at a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing site. Just click on the link in your email, wait in the Waiting Room, and your therapist will come and get you there to begin your online session. Online sessions are usually 53 minutes long, although the length may differ depending on your insurance.
What Happens During a Session?
To work with a therapist online, you’ll need a computer, laptop, a phone with a camera and microphone, or a tablet where you can videoconference, such as an iPad. Make sure you’re in a quiet place such as a private room where you can speak openly without being heard and where you won’t be interrupted. For example, some clients who are students or want to meet during the work day meet on their phones in their vehicles. During the online session you and your counselor will work on the same issues that you’d work on in person if you came into the actual office. Each person’s issues are unique to them, and some typical issues that we’re experienced in treating include depression and anxiety, substance abuse and gambling and other addictions, LGBTQ issues including transgender transitioning, stress and anger management, self-esteem and confidence issues, personality disorders, PTSD and trauma recovery, and personal growth. Online counseling is also a great fit for anyone who is dealing with personal issues which cause them to prefer not to meet in an office setting.

Does My Insurance Cover Online Counseling Sessions?
Online counseling is still a relatively new treatment option, and some insurers aren’t providing coverage for these services yet. We’d be happy to contact your health insurance company prior to starting online counseling to verify your coverage for online counseling. Some clients prefer to pay out of pocket rather than using their insurances because they prefer to keep their diagnosis and session details completely confidential. We’d be happy to work with you with either your insurance coverage or with private pay.
What Are Your Fees?
Kahl Counseling Onlines’s fees are the same as those at Kahl Counseling. If your insurance covers your sessions, we will bill them directly for your convenience. If you have an insurance deductible or copay we will charge them on your credit card at the end of your sessions. We keep all online clients’ credit cards on file rather than requiring you to provide them each time we meet. For cash clients, we offer two out of pocket fees. Our full fee is $135 and we have a reduced hardship rate of $110 per session. Rather than asking for your pay stubs or for personal information about your finances, we go by the honor system, allowing you to choose which fee is affordable to you. If you choose to pay privately your credit card will be charged either the full rate or the hardship rate at the end of each session, and a receipt will be sent to you either via email or phone message.
Am I a Candidate for Online Counseling?
While online counseling is a great fit for some clients there are others who would benefit most from working face-to-face with their counselor. We’d be happy to provide a free ten-minute phone consult to determine if online counseling would be the best fit for you. If online counseling is not the best treatment option, we’ll suggest more compatible services.
